Adolescence can be tough for many people and having a bully hanging around can make it even worse. Here is some useful information about being a teenager and dealing with bullies.

Adolescence is the period of psychological and social transition between childhood and adulthood. Adolescence can be a scary time, full of angst and new emotions. It is also a time when the tremendous amount of energy of young people can contribute to many worthwhile projects. The more parents and teachers can do to engage teenagers, the more likely it is that young people will have a successful transition becoming an adult.

Bullying among children and teenagers has often been dismissed as a normal part of growing up. Little attention has been paid to the devastating effects of bullying, or to the connection between bullying and other forms of violence. In recent years, however, students and adults have begun to make a commitment to stop bullying in their schools and communities.

How can I help an adolescent who is showing symptoms of depression?

When you note a profound change in the behaviour of an adolescent, when you are concerned and you suspect a depression, you can help in four ways:
1. Decode the behaviour of the adolescent
2. Don't leave the adolescent isolated
3. Refer the adolescent
4. Don't try to play the therapist

SLEEP--

The patterns that young teens seemed to be experiencing -- an inability to go to sleep at night, followed by profound drowsiness on waking -- seemed so pervasive that it should come as no a surprise that what parents were seeing at home had already been corroborated in university sleep labs.
